NLWS Results for Saturday Sept 2, 2017

WATERFORD, CT (September 2, 2017): Keith Rocco had to withstand numerous challenges from Ashway, RI’s Kyle James to take down the 35-lap SK Modified Feature. It was the sixth win on the season for the Berlin, CT driver. Rocco didn’t was anytime moving to the front as on lap-8 Rocco out muscled Matt Galko down the back stretch to take the lead in the Dunleavey’s Truck and Trailer Repairs sponsored #88. Rocco had company as James also got under Galko in the Jammin 107.7 sponsored #21 to move in the runner up position. The two started to pull away from the field with James all over the rear bumper of Rocco. James managed to get on the outside of Rocco as the two-battled side-by-side and swapped the lead on numerous occasions as the race was winding down. James saved one last ditch effort to get around Rocco but couldn’t make it stick giving Rocco the win. With the win Rocco continues to hold the points lead over James. Finishing behind James was Todd Owen, Matthew Galko and Diego Monahan who rounded out the top-5. Heat wins went to Owen and Rocco.

In the 25-lap SK Light Modified it was Colchester, CT’s Bryan Narducci takins his first ever open wheel modified win of his career. Narducci had his hands full battling his way to the front. Farmington, CT’s Dana DiMatteo in the Island Cove sponsored #176 grabbed the lead early from Alan Gombos in the #25 and had a fight on his hands. First DiMatteo had to fend off his counterpart in the points battle, in Andrew Molleur. Up next for DiMatteo was Narducci. The two would battle for the lead through three restarts and finally on lap-18 Narducci made a cross over move coming out of turn-2 and took the lead from DiMatteo down the back stretch. The two would side-by-side for a handful of laps allowing the Spafco sponsored #36 of Molleur to get back into the battle for the win. The trio would pull away from the field to battle it out. Narducci would come out of the battle leading and taking down the win. It was Narducci’s only third time behind the wheel of a SK Light. Finishing in the top-five in fourth was Wayne Burroughs and Glenn Griswold. Griswold was penalized two spots after the event for being light over the scales, moving Glenn Korner to the fifth spot. Heat wins went to DiMatteo and Molleur. DiMatteo still holds a slim lead over Molleur in the points battle

It was Chris Meyer sitting in victory lane in the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature after a hard-fought battle with second place finisher Shawn Monahan. The two battled over many restarts with both taking the lead from each other lap after lap with Meyer on the low side of Monahan. Monahan couldn’t make it stick and settled for the runner up position. With the win, Meyer will hold onto the points lead. Rounding out the top-five were Ryan Waterman, Adrien Paradis and Jordan Hadley. Waterman recovered from a lap-1 mishap to take a top five finish. Bo Norman, Al Stone and Monte Gibbs took down heat wins.

Jordan Hadley just dominated the 25-lap Mini Stock Feature. After the caution flag waved to halt the race just one lap into the feature, Hadley went three wide withy his #37 Allstate sponsored Mustang on the restart and grabbed the lead and coasted to the win. Hadley crossed the line a quarter of the track over the second position machine of Wayne Burroughs Jr. For Hadley, it was his third Mini Stock win of the year. Rounding out the top-5 were Charles Canfield, Jacob Perry and Mark Panaroni. Heat winners were Jacob Perry and Charles Canfield.

Middletown, CT’s Joey Ternullo stayed unbeaten after taking the 25-lap Legends event. The win was his sixth in a row at the shore line oval. It was John O’Sullivan grabbing the lead in the Guilford Texaco sponsored #51 machine. While O’Sullivan was running point, it was Ternullo in the Laticrete sponsored #10 machine going three-wide to set his sights on the O’Sullivan #51. It was on lap-12 that Ternullo mad a sling shot move to edge under the O’Sullivan machine and grabbed the lead along with his sixth win. Rounding out the top five were Ternullo, Kyle Rogers, Jason Palmer, Corey Caddick and Jon Puleo. For Palmer, it was his first Legend start of the year. Heat winners were Kyle Rogers and Ternullo.

In the 50-lap New England Mini Stock Tour feature it was a home track victory for Glen Thomas. For the West Bridgewater, MA driver it was his second year defending his home turf with the win. For Thomas, he had to battle points contender in the NEMST Emerson Cayer to take the win. It looked like it was going to be all Matthew Sonnhalter as he took the lead from his front row starting spot and went out and hid from the field. It wasn’t until both Cayer and Thomas followed suit and got under Sonnhalter and made their charge to the front. It wasn’t until after a late restart that Thomas used the outside lane in his Tire Store sponsored #53 and got by the Cayer machine for the lead. Thomas had to hold off a final challenge by Cayer after a restart with only seven laps to go. Rounding out the top five were Cody LeBlanc, Sonnhalter, and Matt Boucher. The three heat winners went to LeBlanc, Thomas and Cayer.

It was a Florida resident that came to The Speedbowl to capture the 35-lap Mr. Rooter Truck Series event. Danny Anderson who made the drive up from Florida started on the front row and battled series regular Cory Coates as the green flag waved to start the feature. Coates would hold onto the lead until he went pit side after the first of three cautions with front suspension issues, handing Anderson the lead. Sitting to the outside of Anderson on the restart was last week’s winner Allen Coates. Coates couldn’t get around the Anderson machine as his Dodge Ram was getting tighter by the lap. The final caution came out setting up a three-lap shootout with Anderson staying out front in his Anderson Auto Repair sponsored #50. The lineup was setup by two groups of qualifying. The NLWS winner of the event was the #2VT truck of Duane Noll. Noll leads the points for the NLWS trucks.

Next Saturday at The Speedbowl will be the first appearance of the Exit Reality Modified Touring Series with the first of two events scheduled at The Speedbowl. Come out and see Speedbowl regulars Keith Rocco, Andrew Molleur and others battle the stars of the MTS.
