Wednesday's version of Wild and Wacky Wednesday had a lot of firsts. The first event of the evening was
the continuation of the Super X-Cars, which still had elven laps to go. It was Peter Martin jumped out in
the lead and never looked back as he collected his first win of the season. “I had a hard time not thinking
about it all week, I basically did all the work last week by going from the back to fifth spot. I just paced
myself and took it lap by lap,” commented Martin after the win. Rounding out the top five were Martin,
Ray Reed, Don Berge, Dave Yardley and Marc Shafer.
Uncasville, CT’s Kyle Gero, used a dive bomb move on the inside of Wayne Shifflett and came out with
the lead with a handful of laps to go and took down his second win of the season in the 25-lap feature
for the X-Cars division. Shifflett hung on for second holding off the hard charging Eddie Loomis from
Plainfield, CT who finished third. Rounding out the top five were Christopher Lee and Bill Rheaume.
It was a large field of the Bandoleros hitting the track next. It was Berlin, CT’s Tyler Alkas shooting out
from the pole position and held off all challenges as he took down his first career victory. Tyler who is a
third-generation driver thanked his Grandfather and father right off the bat in victory lane, “I want to
thank them both, they put a lot of time working on the car and I owe it to them,” Tyler said after leading
all 25-laps of the event. Following Alkas to the line was Zachary Martinez, PJ Evans, Ethan Evans and Ari
Jencik.
After last week’s DQ, Norwich, CT’s Timothy Depizzol was out to make a statement. Depizzol who week
in and week out having a fast car always finds himself in other people’s messes. Tonight, Depizzol
grabbed the lead on lap-5 and pulled out to a good size lead. While expanding his lead his car was
slowing and the runner up Carlo Blandina got under him with a handful of laps to go. Depizzol withstood
the battle and took down his first career win at The Bowl. “Man, after five years here we finally did it, I
want to thank my Grandfather and my friends for the help,” an emotional Depizzol said in victory lane.
Rounding out the top-5 were Depizzol, Blandina, Peter Bennett, Colin Haley and David Lespinasse
The regular scheduled 25-lap Super X- Cars took to the grid for their 25-lap event next. It was Uncasville,
CT’s Don Berge not only taking the win but the win was a special for him. It was his first win of this
century for the veteran driver. With the laps winding down and the second and third place drivers Marc
Shafer and Ray Reed battling side by side for the runner-up spot gave the chance for Berge to pull away
and take down the win. ”I kept looking in the mirror and didn’t see anybody and just kept paddling
along,” chuckled Berge after the event. Finishing in the top five were Berge, Shafer, Dave Yardley, Reed
and Dan Moon.
Finishing off the night was the 4 Cylinder/ 6 Cylinder Enduro event. It was Waterford, CT’s Shawn
Monahan starting from the last row and not only did he dominate the event he lapped the field to take
down the win.
