It’s quite possible Billy Scrivener is known for marrying Alice Potter on the frontstretch as he is for any of his accomplishments on the track. That ceremony took place on April 1, 1964 and they remained married for 38 years until Bill passed away in 2002.

On the track, Scrivener started winning races in 1961 in the Bomber division. In fact, he won Bomber races in a record 5 straight seasons, culminating in his 10 win season of 1965 that resulted in the Bomber Championship. Only Ed Moody (44) has more than Scrivener’s 22 wins in the division during their careers.

Scrivener was also one of the drivers that helped get the Daredevil division off the ground, winning 3 of the 5 races held at the end of the 1965 season, their inaugural season at Waterford. Together with his Bomber wins, Bill won 13 races that year.
Scrivener later became a mainstay in the Modified division, winning races from 1966 to 1974. 11 career wins total in the division. During that span, Modifieds transformed from the coupe era into the Pinto revolution and Scrivener won during both eras. His last Speedbowl win was a 40 lap Modified race in May of 1974.
