Al Stone III’s family has been racing in southern New England since the 1950’s with Al Stone Sr racing in the 1950’s at since-closed CT tracks like Plainville Stadium and West Haven Speedway. Al Stone Jr was on the crew of “Crazy” Charlie Verheyden during the 1980’s and 1990’s. Al Stone uses the #52 due to his family’s connection to Crazy Charlie, who ran the same number.

It took Al Stone III a few years before he starting earning victories at the Speedbowl, getting his first feature win in July of 2005. By 2011, he had passed Ed Gertsch Jr as the division’s Career Wins Leader and had won 2 Speedbowl Championships (2008 & 2010). He then raced SK Modifieds during the 2012 season.

He return to the Street Stocks in 2013, where he has raced ever since – padding his record number of wins in the division with each passing year. He now has more than twice as many wins than any other Street Stock competitor at the Speedbowl. He won back-to-back Championships in 2015-2016, then won his record 5th Street Stock championship in 2023, a season when he switched from his own #52 to driving Bo Norman’s #12 to finish out the year.

Al Stone III is still active at the Speedbowl and as of the 2025 season, he has 71 career wins at the track – all in the Street Stock division. He is currently 9th on the Speedbowl’s Career Wins List.
