“Daring Dick” Caso was one of the most colorful competitors at the Waterford Speedbowl during the 1960’s and 1970’s. He started in the Bomber division, the novice division at the track from 1958-1966. Caso won 15 races in the division between 1960-1965, including 5 each in both 1961 and 1963.

Moving to the Modified in the late 60’s, he won his first race in the division during the 1967 season, then led the division three times in wins: 1968 (8), 1969 (6) and 1972 (4). In total, Caso won 21 Modified races between 1967-1972, more than any other driver during that span.

Caso was somewhat of a wreckers or checkereds kind of racer. There seems to be as many stories about some spectacular crashes he was involved in as trips to Speedbowl victory lane.

Caso left weekly competition at Waterford to compete elsewhere in the mid-1970’s, returning to Speedbowl victory lane one last time during the 1978 season. Caso has the unique distinction of having the most Speedbowl career wins without ever winning a track championship.
