Don Fowler won races at the Waterford Speedbowl in 4 different decades and in 3 different divisions. He started out in the Speedbowl’s first Late Model division, known as the Sportsman Sedans, in the early 1970’s. His first feature win came on Sept 9, 1972, then won again in 1974.

But it was when Harvey Tattersall Jr bought the Speedbowl, he revamped the division to his United Racing Club’s Grand American rules, and Don Fowler was the dominant driver for that era of the division. In 1975, Fowler won 4 races and went down to the wire for the championship against 5-time winner Roger Charbonneau. Don lost a wheel during the final race and had a DNF, but with only 10 other cars left on the track at the time, he finished 11th, just enough to claim the title despite Charbonneau’s victory. He repeated as Champion again in 1976 with another 4 win season.

Fowler took a ride in the Modifieds for the 1977 season, which didn’t go well and included a wicked wreck that destroyed the car, he returned the the Grand Ams in the second half of the year and won another feature race. Then in 1978, he won his 3rd Speedbowl Championship. This time, he was co-champions with Dick LaFlesh, whom he ironically switched rides with earlier in the year.

When the Grand Americans dissolved after the 1979 season, Fowler returned to the Modified division, winning a race in 3 straights seasons from 1982-1984. He continued in the SK Modified era, winning 7 more times over the years. His last win at the Speedbowl came on June 25, 2005. After driving cars numbered 26 for most of his career, he retired from competition with 26 feature wins across 3 different divisions and 4 different decades.
