Mark Lajeunesse was known for his beautifully well prepared #33 Modifieds during the 1970’s. He won his first race at the Speedbowl on Sept 7, 1974. Then when Harvey Tattersall Jr bought the track prior to the 1975 season, he incorporated his United Racing Club rules and implemented a Sportsman class within the Modified division that would have their own point standings and champion crowned. Mark finished 5th in Modified points and won the 1975 Sportsman Championship.

Eight years after his first win, he won an 82 lapper in July of 1982. He would win twice more in 1983. A family operation with his father Al, their race team also provided a car for fan-favorite Fred “Fuzzy” Baer in the early 1980’s.

When the Arute family leased the Speedbowl and made the headline division their upstart SK Modifieds, Lajeunesse continued his winning ways. Between 1985-2001, Mark won 14 SK Modified races at the Speedbowl. His biggest win was the $5,000-to-win Budweiser Modified Nationals in 2000.
Mark finished 9th in points in 2002 and then quietly left the weekly competition at the Speedbowl. He is remembered for not only the craftsmanship of his homebuilt racecars, but his friendly and easy-going demeanor around the pit area.
