Ted Christopher had 3 different eras to his Speedbowl career, running for 3 different car owners and winning races for all of them in a 30 year span.

It started out in the late 1980’s when he arrived at the shoreline oval driving Ron Berndt’s North End Auto Parts #54. From 1987-1995, he won 26 SK Modified races at the Speedbowl and all but 2 driving the #54. He led the division in wins 5 times, winning 6 races in 1991 and 4 in 1992 when he clinched the SK Modified Championship. He also won the 1987 Tri-Track Championship with combined SK Modified points from all 3 Connecticut tracks.

In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, “TC” ran the Mystique Motorsports #13 and although he didn’t compete at Waterford regularly, he returned many times especially for extra-distance events. Ted won the 100-lap SK Modified portion of the Pepsi 300 three times (1998, 2003, 2004) and the $5,000 Budweiser Modified Nationals in 1999.

Then in the 2010’s he returned to weekly competition at the Speedbowl in Doug DiPisa’s Prestige Motorsports #13. Their big year together was 2015 when Ted won 8 races, his personal best at the Speedbowl. He won once in 2016 as well.

Christopher also has Speedbowl wins in the NEMA Midgets (1998), 2 Pro Four Modified wins at Waterford 28 years apart (1988, 2016), and a couple of Modified Racing series wins in Joe Brady’s #00 (2014, 2017). A month after his last Speedbowl win, Ted Christopher was tragically killed in a plane crash on his way to Riverhead Raceway on Sept 16, 2017. He was 59 years old. He was posthumously inducted into the NEAR Hall of Fame in 2018 and the Eastern Motorsports Press Association’s HOF in 2024.
