If you were asked to pick a Mount Rushmore of the greatest Mini Stock drivers at the Speedbowl, Charles Canfield might not initially come to mind, but a closer look at his stats and it becomes clear he is one of the most accomplished Mini Stock drivers in history.

He first went to the Speedbowl as a kid when his father “Crazy Charlie” Verheyden was one of the more colorful Street Stock competitors of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. As a competitor, Charles has been a mainstay in the Mini Stock since the late 2000’s. It took a few years for Canfield to find success, winning his first race in 2011 after a torrid battle with that year’s champion Glenn Colvin. It would take him another 5 seasons before he won again, but then he really hit his stride.

Canfield won 4 times in 2016 to co-lead the division with Wayne Burroughs Jr, who he finished runner-up to in the title chase. In 2017, he finally captured his first Mini Stock Championship after a 2 win season.

Then in 2018, he had a career year capturing 10 wins and his 2nd straight title. Over the next 5 seasons he would win 16 more features while earning his 3rd championship in 2022 and then his 4th in 2024. Only Ken Cassidy Jr (5) has more Mini Stock titles at the Speedbowl.

Canfield was a model of consistently for almost a decade, never finishing worse than 3rd in points from 2016-2024. Yet in 2025, he went winless after 8 straight seasons with a Mini Stock win. However, he kept his overall win streak alive at the track when he won the Full Size Enduro at the end of the year.
